General 'War on Terrorism' News Template Uncle Sam Wants YOU!
So America has had another major victory in its war against terrorism, some guy has been blown to smithereens by a US missile. What did he do, well, he had something to do with something else, and that was presumably evil. So he dun got blowed up.
The CIA had been following this person for some time now and finally thought 'hey, maybe we should get him'.
This whole 'America fights terrorism' thing reminds me a lot of the novel 1984 by George Orwell, where Soldiers fought an invisible enemy on the other side of the planet. Citizens at home had no idea who the war was being fought against, but constantly rejoiced when they were brought news of major victories. Why the victories were good, or what purpose they served, nobody knew; but winning was a good thing, and that made people happy.
Down in the states people are told almost every day that new members of terrorist groups are being captured or killed. Celebration commences, who cares why, another one bites the dust.
So the questions I’m trying to raise are basically:
Is the war on terrorism a beneficial thing for America to be engaged in? Is progress actually being made? Is it just a cover, something the US Government is using to satisfy its peoples cry for vengeance after September 11?
In my own personal opinion, I think it’s a mix. I think that America is making some progress in the fight, but for the most part, any accomplishments that are highly covered on the news are simply announced to make the government look good.
