Whats A Sell-Out? And How Much Does One Cost?
Theres been a lot of banter over at The Metro about the current state of the music Industry.
One of the ideas touched upon has been 'Selling Out'. I'd like to comment a bit on selling out here.
So what exactly is a sell-out? To me, a sell-out is a person, or group of people who release an album, knowing full well that its crap, simply so that they can rake in the dough, and stay in the lime light.
The idea of the 'Sell Out' helps fuel piracy. If a group is not willing to put effort or creativity into their new album, why should I pay money, that I used effort and creativity to earn, to purchase their pile of crap?
Can you see the cycle? A lot of people now beleive that music today is crap, and will only download it. Artists don't get nearly as much money from album sales, and hence release more crap to compensate. A Snow-Ball effect.
Heres the tricky part, how do you stop it? Shine light on the snow to melt it. Artists/Recording Companies have to find a way to show fans that they appreciate the people who purchase their products. The way I see this happening is having artists take their time and release what they beleive to be their best work. If something is truly good, people will buy into it. If you build it, they will come.
Peace Out Could I have a C Minor Please?
